Dr. Henry Thomas, Sr.
Pastor Emeritus
Henry, Surnamed Thomas was born in a small rural community (Big Cane) in Louisiana. He was the seventh child in a family of twenty children. From an early age, he learned hard work on the farm in Big Cane. At the age of 14, he was called to the ministry. As he matured, he learned the meaning of leadership, industriousness, self-sacrifice, responsibility, professional attainment, dedication and commitment to service to God and man.
From very humble beginnings, he has served honorable in the U.S. Navy as Chaplain, attained training and certification in carpentry and brick masonry, while simultaneously filling the role of husband, father, and pastor. He studied theology at the Inter-Baptist Theological Center where he earned the Bachelor of Theology, Master of Theology and L.L.D. Degrees.
Pastor is the devoted husband of our late First Lady, Sis. Helen J. Thomas, and who passed away in February, 2007. He is the father of 7 children, of which, two of his daughters have preceded him in death, Catherine and Margaret. He is also a beloved and wonderful grandfather and great-grandfather.
After graduation, Pastor Thomas established the Extension Center of Inter-Baptist Theological Ceneter and is currently the administrator, President and Theology teacher of the Texas School of Theology serving the Houston and Beaumont area. Our pastor organized Unity Missionary Baptist Church and has been our only pastor/leader for 48 years. For a short time, he also pastured Strait Life Missionary Baptist Church in Houston. Prior to Unity, he pastured Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of McNair, Baytown, Texas for nine years. His ministerial service has been continuous and fruitful for 67 years.
Pastor Thomas is affectionately known as the Pastor’s pastor because of his conscientious service, counseling, teaching and friendship with many pastors over the years. Because of his “hands-on” service, friendship, and wisdom of God’s word, he has received many honors, awards, and certificates.
